Transitional kitchen cabinet style

So you want something timeless-but-on trend and elegant-but-simple? Then you’re probably after what interior designers call Transitional Style (also known as “classic with a contemporary twist”).

It’s about blending traditional and contemporary styles and incorporating lines that are less ornate than traditional designs, but not as crisp as contemporary lines. As a result, transitional furniture designs are classic, timeless, and clean.

What does transitional style look like for kitchen cabinetry? We popped some pictures of IKAN projects featuring a transitional cabinet door style that’s very popular right now.

You can see how easily a door style like this can be changed with various hardware, backslashes and other design features. It’s incredibly versatile. Above is an off-white Bodbyn cabinet from IKEA.

Whether in the kitchen, the mudroom, the walk-in closet or bathroom–even the living room–these cabinets will blend in and complement most people’s decor styles.

Simple and sophisticated.

Unlike contemporary furniture, transitional style focuses on comfort and practicality and often draws on neutral tones as the main colour palette.
