Before & After - Cadboro Bay Beauty

What you're about to see is one of our all-time favourite projects. The pictures really speak for themselves, but to truly appreciate this project you should know this gorgeous home is in a beautiful neighbourhood in the prestigious Uplands area of Victoria and was built in the early 1900s. A century later, we were looking at a kitchen that had lost its way. While the kitchen had already been renovated along the way, we thought of our updated design as a return to a century ago and to the home’s original beauty - but with modern features to make food prep easy and enjoyable!

Much of the home retains its original features and everyone involved in this project wanted to embrace those elements in the kitchen design. They also had to make room for this family of seven, who (we love this!) often cook together.

The homeowners worked with Alexis Solomon, principal of MINT Design and IKAN kitchen designer, on the overall design, and selected IKEA's Lidingo white cabinets with period-style black cup handles and knobs. The cabinets were stacked to complement the high ceilings, using both glass doors and solid doors. A beautiful double farmhouse sink was set in white solid surface counters, and lots of lighting, both under cabinet and inside glass cabinets add warmth and beauty. The full-depth pantries are loaded with roll out shelves. All of this was expertly installed by our installer and designer John.

Now, on to the before and afters!

In the following before and after you can see how open and bright the new kitchen is.

The homeowner says the pantry just made sense to her as soon as Alexis told her how in South Africa everyone has a pantry in their kitchen.
