Mixin it up, old school

There's nothing that makes a kitchen as cool as a retro-looking fridge, is there? We have to share this amazing kitchen, which was recently featured in HGTV Magazine. We love how the cabinet doors and drawers have different-but-complementary handles and the great mix of open shelves and upper cabinets. And maybe best of all: the pop of chartreuse green subway tiles. IKAN designer and principal of MINT Design, Alexis Solomon, also loves the retro farmhouse lights and the wood slat detail on the back of the island. Replicating this look shouldn't cost must--it could be easily pulled off with ready-made cabinets.

"The kitchen has a distinctly retro feel with white laminate counters, schoolhouse pendants (from Pottery Barn), and a refrigerator and stove (both by Elmira Stove Works) that are new but reminiscent of 1950s-style appliances. To keep the room cheery, Sandy went with chartreuse glass tiles for the backsplash. Vintage glassware and other items that Sandy’s collected stock the open shelves." ~HGTV Magazine
